Expat's life… expatin elämää…

You leave your home country. Family, friends and all the familiar is behind.
The city you have left will always be there, should you wish to return.
New environment, new habits,… EVERYTHING is new!
You’re excited, you love it all!

After some time you have a need to socialize. You meet new acquaintances, friends and perhaps make close friends.

A day will come when a big gaping hole will appear in your network of friends. Just when you feel comfortable around ones, they leave for another posting or return home.

You stay, they leave.
You keep in touch via email and telephone – like the way you do with people back home.

This young man conquered my heart. He was born here in Cairo.

Harry was an eager cleaner, just like my own kids at his age.
He tried the famous Finnish Fazer’s blue chocolate for the first time.

Today he’s flying to his new home country. I wonder when we’ll meet again.

Jätät taakse kotimaasi. Perhe, ystävät ja kaikki tuttu jää, (ehkä) jonain päivänä taas edessä.
Uusi ympäristö, uudet tavat, uudet… KAIKKI on uutta!

Jännittävää, mielenkiintoista!

Jonkin ajan kuluttua herää tarve liikkua, tutustua paikkoihin ja ihmisiin.
Saat tuttavia, joistakin tulee ystäviä, joistakin läheisiä ystäviä.

Tulee päivä jolloin verkostoosi tulee iso aukko. Hän, johon olet juuri tutustunut lähemmin ja olet jo ”tottunut” hänen olevan “täällä”, sopimus expatina päättyy ja hän palaa takaisin kotimaahansa tai uuteen kohdemaahan.

Sinä jäät, hän lähtee.
Pidätte yhteyttä pääosin sähköpostilla/puhelimitse – niin kuin teet niiden kanssa jotka jäivät kun sinä lähdit.

Tämä nuori mies valloitti sydämeni. Hän syntyi täällä Kairossa.

Harry heilui harjan kanssa kuin omat lapseni aikoinaan.

Maistoi kanssamme ensimmäistä kertaa suklaata, suomalaista Fazerin sinistä.

Tänään hän lentää kohti uutta kotimaataan. Milloin mahdamme tavata seuraavan kerran?
