this is a very common sight…he should be at school!?

if not daily but weekly you see a truck full of stuff fell down…
this time full of asphalt…
ahaa, what do we see here…
they got the truck up and off it went
but its back door (is that a door or what?) fell off… holy smokes!
In Finland the truck would not have moved anywhere…
and look at the taxi – can you see the smoke? oh, boy…
can you imagine people fishing from that water!?
and they eat that poisonous haul!

nobody cares what they do for the groundwater…argh!
this tank truck was emptying its tank…I wonder what that liquid was –
what I saw it was NOT pure water!
this is how they burn all kinds of trash…

And now about the corruption.
I give you a hint.
If you travel to Egypt or Morocco etc. DO NOT carry any money in your pockets at the airport! Put your wallet in your bag while body scanning.

When you enter the security scanner it goes beep-beep-beep. If you have money/wallet in your pocket the security POLICE yes! POLICE!!! might ask you: “hm, money – is that for me?” Meaning: give me some!
That happened to my husband every time he travelled, in and out.
But not anymore because he puts his money in a bag.
He’s never given any money but he gets angry.

And how does it make you to feel about the whole country if the POLICE at the airport is behaving like that?
Corruption is common on a daily basis everywhere.
You should give money to the traffic police to make a short cut instead of driving 10 km extra because there are no u-turn points.
Every tourist trap has women working in the toilets. They give you a piece of paper and want money for that. You don’t have to give but you feel uncomfortable if you don’t.
Money and connections talk everywhere.
Good tips make the waiter remember you tomorrow morning or at the bar next evening…

Yes, this is one side of it, still in many countries! No easy solutions… and as a visitor I guess you just have to live with it. It’s of course easier to be an ecologist or anti-corruption if you live in Finland or Sweden or Germany or France… What I say of course doesn’t mean that we shouldn’t all try to do something, but we should not expect any immediate miracles.
One good thing here at least is that we (you) can talk about it.

Luxorissa on nyt varmaan parannettu siivoamista, etenkin viime keväänä huomasin, että näyttääpä siistiltä edellisiin vuosiin verrattuna. Ja kas, kaduilla näkyikin ilmoituksia, että etsitään katusiivoojia ja palkka oli katusiivoojan palkaksi ja egyptiläisittäin kohtuullinen – no, ainakin parempi kuin ennen. Mutta liittynee turisteihin, eivät siellä muuten ehkä niin välittäisi.
Mutta jos lähtee kulkemaan sivukujia ja kauempaa niin kyllä siellä niitä kaatopaikan näköisiä läjiä on, ja joskus niissä makaa kuolleita eläimiäkin, jopa vesikanaleissa…turisteille ei vaan haluta näyttää paskakasoja joten niihin alueisiin vain panostetaan missä he liikkuvat.
Piti muuten vielä sanoa, että roska on nimenomaan Kairossa ongelma, ei me noin kamalaa nähty esimerkiksi Luxorissa ja meidän kairolainen opaskin sanoi, ettei ymmärrä, miksi Kairo ei saa asiaa kuntoon, kun se muualla Egyptissä saadaan.

survive if they don’t get extra money somewhere.
Most of the teaches give private lessons till late midnight. You can imagine how tired pupils and teachers are!

Sivistysvaltioissa on tottunut saamaan apua poliilisilta. Taalla sita parempi mita kauempana pysyvat.
On paljon mista haluaisin kirjoittaa kuten: ihmisoikeudet, poliisin vakivaltainen toiminta vankiloissa, sananvapauden puute jne. Mutta taidan odottaa niin kauan etta paasen maasta turvallisesti ulos…

Niinpa. Siella ei todellakaan ole kaikki asiat kunnossa mutta ei nyt ihan nain jarkyttavassa jamassa kuin taalla!
Suomalaiset eivat osaa arvostaa sita, etta on juomakelpoinen hanavesi, suhteellisen siistia ja puhdas ilma.
Mutta kylla niita mayrakoiria, pizzalaatikoita, tyhjia pulloja jne. on havyttoman paljon jatetty jalkeen. Jos jaksaa kantaa taytena niin luulisi tyhjana jaksavan korjata pois kun ei edes paina enaa niin paljon! Mutta ei!
Myoskaan roskiksia ei joka alueella tyhjenneta tarpeeksi usein. Siihen sitten roskiksen ymparistoon kertyy pienoinen jatevuori. Ja lokit nauravat iloisina!

Toilets. Women who are working in toilets should not ask or be after money. You should always carry your own paper tissues with you because most of the toilets don’t have paper.
I do understand that those ladies are trying to get some extra because salaries are REALLY bad.

Sanopa muuta. Luulisi sen puhtauden lahtevan kotoa ja seuraavaan matkassa minne ihminen sitten kulkeekin.
Mutta taalla tahtoo olla niin etta vain oma pesa pidetaan puhtaana ja mikaan sen ulkopuolella ei ole kenenkaan vastuulla.
Juu, eipä ole roskakasoja tai saasteita ikävä! Kyllä monesti mietitytti, että kun islam niin arvostaa puhtautta niin silti Egyptissä ympäristö näyttää sikolätiltä?!
Huh, pelottavan näköistä sotkemista. Me ei nähty mitään tuollaista siellä puhtoisessa lomaparatiisissa. Mutta eipä se todellinen paikka ollutkaan.
Tippaus meni toisinaan hieman yli, vaikka olen siihen tottunut muissa maissa. Korruptioon asti ei tuolla lomamatkalla päässyt kurkistamaan.

Toi on just sitä Egyptiä, jota mekin nähtiin ja koettiin. Kamalia nuo kaatopaikan näköiset rannat ja kamalaa, että uniformussa töissä oleva POLIISI on olevinaan avulias ja sitten pyytää maksua.

Ouh, not nice to see that trash and feel the people´s disregard for the nature… It surely hurts. It’s incomprehensible how short-sighted humans can be. And I´m one of them too :/
We visited Stockholm twice last summer, and there was a “guard”, usually a young “immigrant”-looking man in a clean uniform, at every toilet´s door in the city center. You had to pay him the set amout of coins and then he opened the gates for you. But the toilets were very clean and pleasant to use.
On maisemat tottamaar vähän toisemmoisessa mallissa siellä, kuin täällä umpihangessa.
Tavallaan hauskaa tavaraa, tavallaan ei. On aina hyvä nähdä kuinka jutut tehdään jossain muualla. Alkaa paremmin arvostaa sitä mitä on täällä Suomi Finlandiassa.
Taitavat olla ne nykyajan 7 vitsausta siinä… nobody cares. Roskaläjästä sattumoisin olen postaamassa minäkin. Kuvaillaan kohta jätteitä yhtä hartaasti kuin sisäsuomalaiset lunta 🙂

The woman at the airport in Cairo wanted her money upfront. I didn’t care.
And I’ve seen at least two ‘rivers’ where you couldn’t even see the water any more thanks to the trash.
That boy looks a bit Bedouini – didn’t you know that these kids DO NOT WANT to go to school (sorry, irony here – that’s what a tour guide told us on our way to St. Catherine’s as a reason for the Bedouin scholl being closed)
