This morning I had my first longer walk – here are couple of pictures I took…
I walk only one street at the time because I got already lost once!

Downtown yes but that’s not the whole truth. This city is mixture of old – new, traditional – modern etc.
No camels but I’ve seen donkeys and horses on the city streets! 🙂

Most of the people are friendly but like everywhere…you know!
We’ve been eating out now almost two weeks – I miss cooking! We like Asian food, just yesterday had sushi dinner…goooooood!

Ei voi edes verrata edelliseen. Taalla voi elaa normaalia elamaa! Vaikka on liikennetta ja ajoittain sen myos haistaa ei saasteista voi puhuakaan samana paivana mita ‘entisessa elamassa’ koimme.
Taalla on silti toisin paikoin likaista ja rahjaista – sama ongelma kuin missa tahansa minne maaseudulta kouluttamattomat muuttavat slummeihin…Lukemani perusteella aika vakavastikin otettava ongelma taalla.
Taalla on myos rikkaiden ja koyhien gappi valtava.
Muuten olemme selvasti lahempana Eurooppaa…sen vaan aistii vaikka muslimimaa onkin ja arabia toisena kielena mutta kylla ranska mielestani on vahvemmin esilla niin katukuvassa kuin kuultavissa…
Juu tykkaamme molemmat kovasti!

Sielläpä näyttää kauniilta ja kiinnostavalta! Tutkittavaa piisaa varmasti pitkäksi aikaa. Vaikuttaa siltä, että olet ihan tyytyväinen tähän uuteen kotikaupunkiisi?
ja minä olen täällä ihan innoissani, kun saan tutustua Marokkoon kauttasi. En ole siellä koskaan käynyt.

Wow. That’s downtown Morocco? It looks like it could be downtown anywhere. Isn’t it strange these pictures we get in our heads about what places look like. Not a camel in sight!

Here we’re planning to travel and explore because the trains are comfortable, roads are okay to drive – and the traffic is not as bad as in Cairo/Egypt. I don’t have to be frighten all the time…

Hi, at the time I was wrapped in work pretty badly so my co-workers became my friends and I integrated through their family and friends. I was around Moroccans all the time, didn’t even have the time to get to know others that came from abroad.
If you’re staying longer, try contacting the AIWC http://www.casablancaaiwc.org/ ..they have get-togethers etc. Honestly I haven’t done much research in that area but I do know there are ‘clubs’ of the expats from France. They majority of the Europeans you will find are from France, which is logical:) Otherwise Moroccans are very family oriented and it happens when you become better friends with somebody, they will welcome you into their family&friends circle. I had a very nice experience with that all together.
Mohammedia is great and you can wonder about by yourself and you’ll be perfectly fine (maybe ask for directions to the park and beach first, take a map with you). Very close by tis also Bouznika – beautiful tranquil beaches. I guess you’ll be getting a lot of other hints very soon.
And yes, if all goes well, I’ll be back to Morocco in about a month or two… I’ll keep you posted:)

Eilen surffasin netissa ja loysin yhden online kurssin ennen kuin paasen ‘live kurssille’. Hotellihuoneessa TV on ranskankielisella kanavalla vaikka ymmarran vain muutaman sanan…
Casa on matala. Paakatuja muutamia mutta suurin osa on kapeita ja sokkeloisia, osin yksisuuntaisia > ajo-ongelmia, ehka juuri mataluus viehattaa. Tama on kuin valtava kyla.
Kunhan tasta rohkaistun naytan kuvilla mielenkiintoisia vastakohtia kuten vanhoja ransistyneita taloja ja aivan upouuutta arkkitehtuuria. Viela olen vahan arka kameran kanssa tuolla yksin heilumaan mutta kylla se tasta viela…
Kiitos ensimmäisen kierroksen tarjoamisesta! Heti tuli jano, että lisää, lisää… Vuosia sitten miehelle tarjottiin hommia Casasta, silloin tuli surffattua netti puhki, mutta juttu ei sitten toteutunut vaan jäätiin vielä Ranskaan. Silloin jäi kuitenkin mielikuva matalammasta kaupungista.

Hi there, I encountered your blog by chance not long ago. Last spring I also moved to Casa (i’m from Central Europe originally) and it’s so nice seeing those pictures… it’s where I walked/passed everyday. You chose a good neighbourhood, same area where I lived for those months. Enjoy the time there and whenever you will have a day, or just an afternoon off – head to Mohammedia (there’s a very good train connection, about 20-30min) away. You’ll love it, if you love to be out walking about in peace, with greenery and a nice beach. Enjoy!! And I’ll be popping in to see more photos soon:)

Jos koko kaupunkia ajattelee niin kokoa loytyy mutta business ja shoppailu on keskittynyt tietylle alueelle.
Pienia katuja ja kujia – niiden seassa eksyy helposti!

Onpas kiva päästä Marokkoon, kiitos kuvista. Rupesin heti vertailemaan tuota ystävällistä kundia yläkuvassa niihin käsi ojossa rahaa pyytäviin edellismaasi asukkaisiin, niin erilaisia varmaan.
Hienolta näyttää,jotkut alueet melkein kuin täältä.Luin että Casablanca on tosi suuri kaupunki,siellä varmaan eksyykin helposti.

It amazes me how the subjects in your photos always smile and wave. When I try to take someone’s portrait they put up major resistance or want royalties. You must put people at their ease! Great introduction to a lovely, lively city!
The streets and sidewalks appear so clean and well kept!
