There are many kinds of fights in this world.

Here are two different kinds of arenas for fighting… 🙂

Sundays In My City

On my morning walk last Saturday I noticed the door was open to

MĂĄlaga’s bullfight arena. I wanted to see it but not the bullfight.

I got a free ticket to….

…coffee promotion! 🙂

I was on my walk so I didn’t taste the coffee but I took a few photos.

 History of La Malagueta

“La Malagueta itself was built in 1874, by the architect JoaquĂn Rucoba. The first fight took place on 11th June 1876.”

It was quite empty but when I left there were lots of people coming in.

My studying is going ok but Spanish grammar is difficult for me.

So much to remember!

But I’ve noticed how much more I understand when reading a newspaper

or watching television.  Something has happened in my head! 🙂

How’s your week been, good?

  1. I don’t think I could bear to watch a bullfight, but I would love to learn to speak Spanish. At one time, many years ago, I was fairly fluent in French. You’ll reach a point where you have to stop your thoughts to determine which language they’re in. It is a strangely rewarding experience.

    • Grammar makes me…less spoken. I notice how I’ve started to think before I speak – earlier when I didn’t care about grammar, verb conjugation wasn’t a
problem but today…Let’s see how I feel after 4 more weeks 🙂 Happy Sunday!

  2. When I saw the title, I thought you may write a post about the beach. Arena is sand in Spanish. Well, I like the stadium/arenas that you posted. Best wishes on verbs, the bane of studying Spanish.

    • I try to be clever and play with words…hahah 🙂 …I know arena is sand – there’s sand in the bullring as well 🙂
I need new words too, so this is an endless process…

  3. We have an “Open Door” weekend in the spring and many of our historical houses and venues are open to the public. Magnificant arena! Have never been to a bullfight. Actually only been to Spain once but plan to go back next year.

    • Oh, gracias! I have to work hard because I’m not 15 yr school girl nor especially talented with grammar…but I can communicate and that’s the main thing for me 🙂

    • Eilen nĂ€in telkkarista kuinka Valenciassa laitetaan hĂ€rĂ€n sarviin tulet, jonkinlaiset soihdut.

  4. You are really learning the language by living life fully in this host country – alas, the grammatical lessons have to be mastered too. Your studying will pay off, but taking in the culture is a rewarding way to learn too!

  5. such big crowds for the bullfights…what is a huge arena. hoping the arena in your head is helping with your studies!!! hope you are still enjoying every bit of your experiences!!!!

    • Thanks, I do enjoy even if it feels like I’m a masochist 🙂 Two steps forward, one back. And some days other way round. 🙂
But I’m learning. I know. And that gives me energy to continue….

  6. Wow!! That bull ring and arena are HUGE! Fascinating-although I am not fond of the concept, the culture that comes with it is amazing.I feel like I should be writing this in Spanish, but can’t remember enough to do so. Before too long, you will find yourself THINKING in Spanish and that’s when the breakthrough begins.

    • I felt the history of the place…it’s funny but I always ‘feel’ when something very old, made by man, is in front of me 🙂
I think already in Spanish BUT there’s a problem. I get a half of a sentence and then I don’t know the next word!!! 🙂
It happens all the time. When I’m at home I have tv on, I listen it more than watch. So my passive Spanish is much better than
active. But I can manage. Locals are nice and patient with me 🙂

  7. En ole koskaan “uskaltanut” mennĂ€ katsomaan itse hĂ€rkĂ€taistelua. Mijaksen Areenaan tutustuin joskus sisĂ€puolelta.
Hienostihan on opiskelusi edennyt. HeidÀn nopean puheensa ymmÀrtÀminen on jo iso askel eteenpÀin.

    • Viime viikkoina on piirtely jÀÀnyt – kirjoitan sitĂ€kin enemmĂ€n.
